Sick of your knee pain?

Knee pain is unfortunately incredibly common and is frequently seen in the clinic by our osteopath Mark and in the studio by our head pilates instructor Hayley.

There are many causes for knee pain – it can be acute (pain occurring from a specific injury) or chronic and insidious (pain that literally crept out of nowhere?!?).
Common injuries in the knee can include:

  • Ligamentous damage
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Meniscus damage
  • Muscular strain – generally in the calves, quads or a little muscle in the back of the knee called the popliteus (no we’re not making that up)
  • Tendon injuries
  • Fractures
  • Bakers cyst irritation.

The good news though, a lot can be done to help you with your pain.
Let’s have a chat to our osteopath Mark about how he deals with a knee injury.

“Knee injuries are super common in the clinic from ACL reco rehabilitation to pain management and strength improvement of an osteoarthritic knee. First, we need to diagnose the cause of the pain with a few questions about the patients pain, taking a body scan and performing orthopaedic tests. Once we have an idea on what’s causing the pain, we get stuck into reducing restrictions and improving range of motion with manual therapy. From there I like to build my patients confidence and resilience of their own body by taking them through exercise rehabilitation and get them moving the way they want too”.

Knee pain is also quite common in the Pilates studio also – here’s what Hayley had to say.

“I see knee pain regularly in the studio – people come in with anything from old sporting injuries to age related knee pain. I also see people who have recently hurt their knee and have been advised to start pilates after seeing Mark. Pilates allows us to work through most cases of knee pain, often times movement is the best medicine. I always work within clients limitations and love finding out what they are capable of and seeing them improve each class.”

So as unfortunate as knee pain is, Morr Movement has seen it all before and are here to help you get back on track. If your pain is acute (i.e. post injury), book in and see Mark for a diagnosis and treatment plan. If your knee pain is subacute and has been niggling you for a while, get in touch with Hayley who can help build that mind body connection and get you moving the way you want too.
